Day 11

I almost missed today's picture.
Today I got set apart for my new calling, the Sacrament meeting piano/organ player. Well I was getting the blessing Bee sat perfectly still on my lap and watched the men. (I haven't said a prayer in church with my eyes closed the whole time since....yup June 07!

It's just amazing to me how this happens. Kids will be bouncing off the walls, screaming and running in Sacrament meeting but they ALWAYS calm down for a second while the prayers start. I don't know if it's just the kids in our ward, cuz that's all I have to go by but it's so true.

It's like they know who we are talking to. The little people of our ward are NOT quiet. It's just amazing to me.

My blessing was pretty long. Bee had been crying. That's why he was on my lap, to keep him quiet. He instantly went silent as the prayer started and stayed that way the whole time.

Bro Ellis, who sealed Chris and I, said something that I will never forget. He said, as Bee was crying his eyes out, that Heavenly Father hears babies cry. He knows why they are crying. This isn't the first time Heavenly Father has had two people, one big and one small, saying a prayer together. They just have different voices. What a great thought.

I just think of all the times I sit with Bee, rocking him to sleep, praying that he goes to sleep soon so I don't kill him (I totally wouldn't, you know that). That maybe he was saying prayers with me.

Well there's your thought for today...do babies talk with Heavenly Father? I'm interested to hear your comments.

What a wonderful blessing. How inspiring to think that maybe they are praying in the only voice they have. Never thought of it that way. I do know what you mean about how quiet it seems during the prayer.

Ok it just must be your ward. Because that doesn't happen in ours, in fact most of the time it's mine child talking and being very loud during the prayer even at home. We try we really do but she refused to be reverant or even fold her arms.

That is such an awesome blessing. It's comforting to hear that and it also makes you think about the connection that our little ones still have to the spirit world.

I know they do.

They are so close to the veil, and I think that angels watch out for them. I know they our warriors, I know they sit close with our Father in Heaven.

So your answer is fo sho!!!!

I love what Brother Ellis said---about having two different voices. It's one of those things, that, the second I read it on your wall I knew it was completely correct.

Thanks for sharing.

I hope Britton talks to Heavenly Father..I need all the prayers I can get! He sees pictures of Jesus and just stares at them with this peaceful smile on his face. If you notice babies are drawn to looking at lights and kind of right past your face (at least Britton did)...my dad thinks it's because they are so used to being in bright places from the pre-existence they are just drawn to looking at the light, and that we all have guardian angels surrounding us and the babies can see them. (at least from personal experience I know my dad has angels surrounding him and babies are always just looking right over his shoulder like there's someone there)
I love that he mentioned Heavenly Father hearing babies cry, I never thought of that before but it makes so much sense! Thanks for the thought today!!

I remember being sealed in the temple to my first husband...my son Jared was about 6 months old. When we got him to the temple he was really crabby and flushed. I knew whoever was watching him while we went through the temple was in for trouble. When we got to the altar for the sealing prayer he was screaming like a banshee. I held him in my arms and just hoped that the Elder saying the prayer had a good LOUD voice. As soon as he bowed his head it was like someone flipped a switch. Jared completely stopped crying and was silent through the whole thing. As soon as it was over he raised such a fuss. I think the whole temple heard him cry. So I'm pretty sure that there is some communication there somewhere!! Congrats on your new calling.

Does this mean you're not in enrichment anymore? Anyway, congrats on the new calling!

Oh, and I was pregnant with my first when we were sealed and our sealer said something about little ones in bellies tend to get very active during such joyous family events and he was right!

Someone at church in a talk told a story about his wife saying bedtime prayers with thier son every night even at a very young age. We say prayers with our older kids but usually don't start until they are 2 or 3 (when they try to say them on their own). I really liked the idea so we started doing that with T-man and he loves it. I have to help him fold his arms but he sits so quietly and listens and I say the words as if he is saying it (like one day he will start copying me) and then at the end he always says "men"(amen). It always calms him right down to go to sleep. I love doing that with him and I know that I am teaching him the importance of his own personal prayers.

Congrats! Don't let the song book fall on the keys..if it does, just blame it on the baby!

Yes, I do believe that they can still talk to Heavenly Father and his angels. I believe that's why they can't talk while they are young. If they could...we would be BLOWN away!
Congrats on your new calling!

I think babies are very much a part of both worlds. I can't believe you are the organ player. Musical and a quilter? Sheesh. I love what your Bro. Ellis said. A speaker in our ward once addressed a very embarrassed mother w/a very loud, crying baby. I am sure that there were a few people annoyed with her until the speaker said that there was no other better sound than that of a baby, no sound closer to God, whether the baby is crying or cooing.

I love that thought and never had thunk it before. I wish I would have during all those baby years. Thanks for sharing it.

Hmm Babies and prayer - of sorts. I've never thought of that. What an interesting thought Kritta. I don't know. Even after having 8 children I just don't know. I suppose it would make sense that they do. But if the veil is drawn and they have to learn from scratch I just don't know. I've often wondered about Jesus when he was a baby - if He was a regular baby or if He knew who He was. Something to think about.

Sacrament Meeting oranist? yipes. That is a hard job. I'll keep my job of doing the sunday program! ;-)

I have an adopted sister who is mentally retarded and cannot speak but can nod her head yes or no to questions. She will on occasion look to one specific spot in the kitchen and smile. Her mother passed away just after she was born. If she is asked if she is looking at someone she will look away from "the spot" for a brief second and smile at you.

So, not only do I think babies talk with Heavenly Father, but I think that some of our "mentally challenged" converse with Him and His angels as well.

I have never thought of it like that before! That's so incredibly sweet. I do remember when I was pregnant with my first one and I became incredibly paranoid something was wrong because the activity of my baby-in-utero was declining and I had my hubby give me a blessing... in it I was told that even when we're pregnant, babies have emotions and ups and downs before they're born. Sometimes they're quiet, sometimes they're tired, sometimes they're sad, happy, whatever. It was very eye-opening!
