I need help

So I haven't ever done this before and I need your guys' suggestions.

Bee is now walking. That means he is taking things and running!! And hiding!

How have you guys done Christmas trees with little ones? I need all the suggestions I can get.

I know no tinsel but what else??

We plan on putting up our Christmas tree the day after Thanksgiving.

When mine were so little, I bought a little "Charlie Brown" tree and put it on top of my cedar chest. I could still put the presents under it even! Katrina was a climber though and still managed to climb up and bang two balls together and shattered them in her hands. Minor amount of blood :)

BTW... where the heck have you been?? I have toys of yours that I've had forever (like four months!!) Some of them didn't fare to well so I need to buy them from you :) It's just been too long!! We all have pink eye so let me know when a good time is to get them to you :) Later gator!!

Just put it around the tree to keep the little ones off. And as an extra precaution we are switching out our glass ornaments this year for the plastic ones.

For us, we have only lived in apartmens so far, so we have a small tree. Like 3 feet high (at the tallest). We plan on putting it on a card table or something so that Josh doesn't get to it. Then we can put the presents around and he should leave them alone. That is our plan, we will see how it goes. Last year he was still too small to really worry about it.

But life definantly gets more interesting as the kids get more moble!

Only decorate the top half! :) hehehe....

Or put a baby yard around it. That's our plan this year.

I get a small plastic tree for each bedroom that my kids sleep in. it is a great night light(I tun them off as I go to bed) and the kids can play with the 10 little ornaments that are on their tree and leave my tree alone.

like bigmama said, we have a little tree for our boys.....still doesn't keep them away from the big one, but it does help!
We never really had a problem with the boys and the tree....we just made sure they knew that it was a "no no" to touch. We did have once where Gabe pulled the tree over...but we just picked it back up, it scared him and he never pulled on the lights again. Also Nolan was in love with the metal hook on the ornaments...I am buying the plastic ones this year!
Hope this helps :) And good luck!

my boy turned one last year, and also having 7 children has made me sortof a expert wouldn't ya think.

jk But-

decorate, just make sure there are no glass bulbs, or else...

Put "mock presents in front of the tree, all babies love getting into presents, then he will be blocked by the presents, that is what we do, and it "usually works"

love the gate idea too.
and I put the ornaments on the bottom that were not breakable. decorate more towards the center of the tree if you want to put ornaments low.
I never had a grab and run child, but my daughter has one!

We plan on putting the ornaments up top where he can't grab them. Other than that, we will just have to tell him no and give him a swattin'! HEHEHE!

We usually just put the ornaments up high enough from the bottom that they can't touch them.

Then the first 1/2 hour we have the tree up...the minute the kids would grap for an ornament I would scream "AAAYYYY!!!" really loud and scare them almost to a heart attack...I only had to do it a few times before they gave up and didn't touch them!

Good Luck!

My MIL taught me this: Don't hang ornaments with the little hooks. Instead use thin craft wire through the ornament's hole and around the branch 2-3 times. That way they have to pull it straight off the branch to get it off at all and they don't fall off as kids run by, nor do they fall off when the kids push three over (and he will!) This is also good if you have pets.

When mine were really little I did a toyland theme and all the ornaments were old toys and alphabet blocks (you can get them at Michael's.) Then I put nutcrackers and teddy bears around they could play with.

Coming over from Secret Ornament Swap to say hello. It's been taking me forever to get around. We always still put up the ornaments but made sure that the ones on the bottom were unbreakable and didn't have any small pieces. Everything else went above the reach. Good luck!

We just have soft or kid friendly things at the bottom which never looks right since they are constantly playing with them. All the nicer stuff(it's not really that nice) is up higher. I'm not one to coordinate my tree, it's just hodge podge stuff. We pick up ornaments when we travel.

My friend says her dad would run a cord or fishing line from the top of the tree and secure it to the ceiling so that the tree wouldn't get knocked down. Sounds good to me as two years ago my boys knocked the tree down a few times and I had to buy a new one.

I know children can be trained to not touch but I just figure it's part of the fun of christmas. One day it won't be as much fun and I'll probably be sad then.

I've never done this, but I was once told about someone who put their tree IN the play pen [the old fashioned large style.] She said her son wouldn't stay in the play pen with out fussing so she used it to keep him out of the tree by putting the tree IN it.

It's an idea, but it would block the view of the tree too.
