Escape
So I got this month's book for Book Club in the mail from Amazon. (First time Amazon buyer- I know, I'm slow!) My book cover looks different but the same book. I'm only about halfway through and my totally sickened by what goes on in these places. And even more grossed out that people think Mormon's are like this!!
It's about her escape from the polygamy sect in Colorado City...but they had the same 'prophet' as the sect in Texas. He's now in jail. Usually I'm a really fast reader, couple days and I'm done with a 400 page book. Not this one. It really is hitting some tough places. I really want to finish it so I can discuss it at book club but this one's gonna be hard, folks!
So as of right now, I have my finally load of laundry in the wash, Bee is asleep for his nap and I'm going to sit down and try and finish this book.

LDS
I was just skipping around the internet and came across this.
Now aren't those scary! It looks like we need to do some work, telling people the truth!
Now on a personal level, my Mom came up to visit and asked about this group of people. She also thought we were the same. So when I say 'we', I really mean me. This lead me to think about my role as a Mormon. What kind of missionary am I? I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I wouldn't be here today if my friends in junior high weren't brave enough to share with me what they know. I'm sooo grateful for them. I just think of what kind of image I give of the church. I hope that it's good. I now have a new light on the subject and hope to be better!
The effort to more clearly distinguish Mormons from the Texas polygamist group follows a survey commissioned by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints that found a high level of public awareness of stories about the polygamous compound near San Angelo, Texas. Allegations of child abuse led to a raid by the state's Child Protective Services earlier this year. Some 91 percent of respondents had heard or read stories surrounding the religious compound.
However, the survey also found that:
- More than a third of those surveyed (36 percent) erroneously thought that the Texas compound was part of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints or "Mormon Church" based in Salt Lake City
- 6 percent said the two groups were partly related.
- 29 percent correctly said the two groups were not connected at all
- 29 percent were not sure.
In addition, when asked specifically which religious organization members of the polygamous group belonged to:
- 30 percent said "Mormon," "LDS" or "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints"
- 14 percent said "FLDS"
- 6 percent said "Mormon fundamentalists"
- Nearly half (44 percent) were unsure

Indexing
So I'm totally just getting into the whole Mormon lifestyle... food storage, Enrichment nights, temple work, genealogy and all the other good stuff! I really enjoy it.
While I was blogging the other day, another must-do in LDS world (ha ha) I ran across a friend of mine that had done indexing as an enrichment night. I thought, well if she can do it... so I looked it up online. I totally fell in LOVE in with. I love sitting at my computer, and now I can help other people do genealogy and temple work!! A plus in both worlds so that's what I do in my spare ten minutes. Check it out here! It will totally fit in your schedule, if you wanna!

This day was so wonderful. I'm so glad the pictures caught some of the feelings that were floating around. There's more pictures to come but these ones are wonderful. Chris and I were just talking about how grateful to have such wonderful friends up here in Anchorage. We get about 5 gorgeous days in Alaska and these people spent one of them with us! We truly do love everyone that was there with us. (There's a couple missing from the pictures but we'll get the later!)
It was really such a blessing to have Chris' parents come up here too. We didn't know if they were going to be able to but we are glad they did. We hope they get to come up in September.
